What to know about wedding day hair from a stylist
If you are a 2023 or even a 2024 bride you probably have a Pinterest board of inspiration on everything from decor to wedding cake ideas. I also bet you have a few of hairstyles you either like or want. This is probably your first wedding especially as a bride so how do we do this?
Meet my friend, Jordan.
Jordan is the owner of J. Salon here in Salmon. She has been hair stylist for seven years. She is incredibly sweet and genuine and she is at a lot of them weddings I am at. She is always fun to be around and I really love to watch her work. She creates such beautiful updos and braids for so many brides, I wish I had an ounce of talent to do that to my own hair. So I asked her to answer some questions that could potentially help you and your planning process as well as what to expect!

I want my hair a certain color and cut before my wedding - when should I have this done? Definitely a month or so prior to your wedding date, a few months if you are wanting a big change.
Should I do a trial run on how I want my hair? Absolutely, we can do 1-2 trials so we both feel like we have nailed the style we are going for. Pictures are helpful!
Well, I have about 5 photos I like can you just put them all together and make it pretty? We can for sure do a mix of all 5 but narrow down to what you love in each of the pictures so it gives me a clear idea of what you want.
Should I get my hair done before or after makeup? If we have enough time we should start before you get your makeup done. If you can't fit that into your schedule hair should come after makeup. Annette here: Also, avoid scheduling them at the same time. Neither professional will have enough space to give you the attention you deserve on this day! You can't constantly move your head while getting your hair curled while someone else is applying eyelashes. Schedule enough time for everything.
How can I ensure the style lasts as long as possible? Wash your hair the day before so it gives us some grit to work with. Try not to touch it too much once we are finished until you hit the dance floor.
Can you also provide hair services to all of my bridesmaids as well? Definitely, have them bring pictures of what they want as well or have clear idea of what everyone will have if they are going to match.
How should I schedule you into wedding day? We want to make sure we have plenty of time so I would say if the ceremony starts at 1 let’s start at 9, if we are doing bridesmaids as well.
Should the bridesmaids match the bride? I don’t think the bridesmaids should match the bride but it’s ok for them to match each other, it is just preference. I think it looks good when bridesmaids have their hair half-up or/and updo if the bride's hair is down and vise versus. This gives it a nice balance and make the bride stand out a little. Annette here: I totally agree with hair down and updo for the other or mix and match, it does balance between everyone's hair color and type and it would be complimentary in your photos.
What is your most requested style for a bride? Usually down with a boho (chunky) style braid.
Do you prefer updos or down and wavy? I prefer down and wavy but I love the challenge of an updo and giving it a romantic look.
What if a bride wants extra volume in their style? I HIGHLY recommend using some sort of extensions, I offer halo couture extensions which is one piece that you can take in and out. It gives great volume and some added length. It is as added cost but well worth it and you can reuse it after you leave special day for everyday wear or even just special occasions.
