Jon & Stephanie
I have chatted with Stephanie a few times over the years and the stars finally aligned and I was able to photograph her family.
I met up with her, Jon, Logan, Lincoln and Haizley. I have actually taken photos of Lincoln before a just a week prior! Haizley was not too fond of the whole process but Logan was such a great big brother to help her feel comfortable.
I just love morning fall sessions, there is just a real glow about it! I loved the glow we got in so many of their photos. We just moved around, played games and Haizley was not falling for any of it.
She was not having some strange lady (me) following her around and snapping her photo. But we got some photos of her even though she just wanted snacks and her daddy. She did not want to leave Jon's side, a real daddy's girl. We got some great shots of just those two.
The kids did good - even thought Haizley seemed to not be the biggest fan, but the boys were patient with her. She is still young and I am a stranger. I like to give kids space and a little time, we can never expect them to in it 100% from the get go! Don't stress over it. The more you stress, the more upset they get, and it's a downhill slope from there.
For real.
If you are nervous about how your child may behave, try to work them up for the session. Don't tell them, "you better smile." Get them excited for the session to smile, tell them, "we are going to have so much fun smiling for pictures." Tell them how much fun they are going to have, games they can play (yes, we can play games), and cool it will be altogether.
We are just changing the narrative to a positive experience, because it does matter how the kids feel too!
Towards the end of your session I usually always ask you are feeling and if there was something you want specifically. I always like to open that door for you to tell or share something you want or saw, because in the long run these are about you and your family.
When I asked Jon and Stephanie, she said she wanted, "some cute photos." She wanted just some cute, playful, photos of just her and Jon.
She spoke my language. I love couple photos. I find them to be fun, and really love trying to push you just a little out of your comfort zone for some really great photos. I had them just do silly stuff with one another. I got some really great shots of just the two of them.
