Ale You Need is Love, a Highlander Beer Engagement Session
Nathan and Brie are getting married! In preparation for their Montana wedding this fall, they wanted to capture some engagement photos here in Salmon, Idaho. And what better place to celebrate their love than Highlander Beer? With Brie being the manager, this spot already holds special meaning for them, making it the perfect backdrop for their engagement session.
As an Idaho engagement photographer, I always encourage my couples to incorporate meaningful places, hobbies, and interests into their sessions. Your engagement photos should reflect who you are as a couple—whether that means cozying up in your favorite brewery, adventuring in the mountains, or sharing a quiet moment in a place you love. While we always get the classic, timeless engagement shots, adding a personal touch makes the session even more special.
Highlander Beer in Salmon is the perfect combination of cozy and lively, making it a fantastic engagement session location. Known for its welcoming atmosphere, delicious craft brews, and community-focused vibe, Highlander Beer is a place where locals gather, stories are shared, and great memories are made.
The brewery's decor, featuring warm wood tones, vintage-inspired elements, and a splash of modern flair, provided the perfect mix of rustic charm and character for this session. Plus, the vibrant mural outside—painted by Cayla in the Current—added a pop of color and personality to Nathan and Brie’s photos.
Shooting at Highlander Beer was a blast! Since Brie manages the space, we had the opportunity to use it while it was closed, giving us complete freedom to explore and create. The atmosphere of the brewery, with its colorful branding and cozy feel, made for a perfect setting. Some of my favorite images from this session are of Nathan and Brie in front of the mural—it's vibrant, fun, and completely them. Inside, we played with different compositions, capturing the couple enjoying their drinks, laughing together, and simply soaking in the space that holds so many memories for them.
After wrapping up at the brewery, we headed outside in search of dry ground, which can be tricky in that winter-to-spring transition. While early spring in Idaho may not seem like the most picturesque time, I absolutely love the golden light it brings. The soft glow of the sun, the earthy tones, and the crisp air made for some truly magical moments. We found a beautiful open space that gave us the perfect balance of warmth and rugged Idaho beauty, a perfect contrast to the brewery setting.
This session was everything I love about engagement photography—laid-back, full of personality, and a true reflection of the couple. Nathan and Brie’s love is effortless and genuine, and capturing that in a setting that holds meaning for them made it all the more special.
