Family Milestones You Might Not Think to get Photos of!
When you think professional photos you most likely go to the top four - newborn, wedding, family and seniors right? You may have hired a professional photographer for any or all of those things in your life. But here are FOUR milestones we often overlook but certainly deserve professional photos too.
The four things may even surprise you and may be things you never thought of getting photos of.
1. Extra sessions with young siblings
This may be obvious for some but this is such a special time when your children, they are young and maybe best friends. This time truly does fly by so don't let more time pass and not take advantage of this time. Their little smiles, with missing teeth and the cheesy grins - you won't get those back. Don't just wait for the yearly family session, try to book a session just for them when you can or there might be a themed "mini session" you want.
These are the memories you will want, I promise. These little moments we never get back and I regret not getting more photos of my own son in these young stages. And I'm a profession photographer. When I was younger my Godmother planned photos every single year. Every year there was a different theme. Some of those are hideous, but I don't regret any of those, and I really appreciate those memories even if we wore Mickey Mouse. So book them a session!
2. Graduation
I am not talking about senior portraits here, I am talking about cap and gown sessions. This can be kindergarten, senior, college graduate - whatever. These are milestones. It is a big accomplishment even if it is "just" kindergarten. These are special photos so don't skip these. And if you have a kindergartener whos is graduating to first grade - they are so cute. I included
3. Anniversaries
I love an excuse for a celebration but you should be getting professional photographs on your anniversary. Don't want to them every single year? Then don't. Focus on milestone anniversaries - first year, five years, ten years and so on and so on. Do you have to stick to those "milestones" but take time for you and your spouse for some photos of just you two. You could do wedding inspired portraits or just in whatever you feel comfortable in! I have photographed first year anniversaries to 60-year anniversaries all are special at different times. Could you images going through a shoebox of photos and see the different years of your parents - how incredible.
4. First Year - Milestones
Now this one may not surprise you so much especially if you have invested in newborn portraits in the past, you may have even already considered first year milestones. While I do not provide newborn photos (sorry!) I do offer milestone portraits. These are 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months. You may have already thought about a first year cake smash session but it's really fun to get those month in between.
They change so much in the first year and really month to month. When we think about it their 3 month photos will look a lot different from their 9 month photos - so invest in these. Invest in that first year! From newborn to first year session.
