What to Wear for Spring Family Photos from an Idaho Family Photographer
Spring is a great time for taking photos, with the beautiful flowers and greenery in bloom. When deciding what to wear for spring photos, you want to choose outfits that complement the season and the surroundings. Here are some tips to help you:
-
Choose light and bright colors: Spring is all about new beginnings, so opt for pastel and light-colored outfits such as baby pink, sky blue, mint green, or lavender. These colors will look great against the fresh greenery and flowers.
-
Dress in layers: Spring weather can be unpredictable, so be sure to dress in layers. You can wear a cute sundress with a denim jacket or a light sweater over a blouse and skirt. This will give you more options for posing and make you comfortable in case the weather gets cooler.
-
Consider prints and patterns: Floral prints, polka dots, and stripes are perfect for spring photoshoots. However, be mindful not to go overboard with prints, as it can be too distracting and clash with the natural surroundings.
-
Accessorize accordingly: Spring is the perfect time to add some playful accessories to your outfit. You can wear a floral headband or a statement necklace to add some extra flair to your photos.
-
Don't forget about footwear: Spring is a great time to wear cute sandals or espadrilles. However, if you'll be walking around in a park or on a trail, you may want to opt for comfortable and practical shoes such as sneakers or flats.
I put together some ideas for spring family photos with color ideas you can get away with! Let me know what you think in the comments!
PICK THREE MAIN COMPLIMENTARY COLORS: Don't go overboard with random colors, be purposeful. Choose three colors. For example blue, khaki and white. Work off of those three colors. Try and stay within that color palette you chose. This will help you stay within the colors and no to stray too far in another direction.
SHADES OF BLUE: I love blue, it's actually my favorite color and it works in a lot of different instances. Use more shades of blue, you can get away with more blue and even more pastels in the Spring - play it up. Use dark and lighter and mix and match with solids and prints. I love how Kayla styled this family session a couple years ago. It really worked well together. Don't you think?
SHADES OF PINK: I don't see a lot of pink, actually more at weddings, but it really works in the Spring. Emily and her family did pink and white, part of an extended family session. I love the mix and match of mom's stripped shirt and the pattern and textures of the dresses. It is sweet and dad can wear gray or black, maybe even white. Would you wear pink in your family session?
POP OF COLOR: I love the use of color Kortne chose for her session, yellow. She mixed shades of blue and green with pops of color and the mixture of texture and patterns work really beautifully together.
OTHER TIPS ON YOUR SPRING PHOTOS
WEAR A DRESS: Yes, a dress. Well, if you want but you may love the idea of a flowy, flattering dress. You will feel pretty and confident! I have a client closet available if you book with with a lot of different style and sizes of dresses ranging in sizes XS to XXL.
REMEMBER COMPLIMENTARY COLORS: I am just going to remind you again, to use complimentary colors when choosing your outfits. Do not wear all white. Do not wear all black. Do not hesitate to ask for help!
DON'T FORGET TO MIX & MATCH: It's okay to mix and match patterns and textures. Don't be afraid. If you are incorporating plaid shirts, mix with a solid and one other less obvious pattern. And honestly STAND out, that's okay too! Ask for suggestions. Lay it out in front of you to get a visual!
USE NEUTRALS: Always incorporate neutrals when in doubt.
DON'T FORGET THE SHOES: Shoes are important so don't forget that they are most likely going to show. We often buy our children those fun, bright colored shoes, if you can try and avoid that. You don't want to put a ton of effort in your outfit to be matching and balanced and then your son has a pair of bright orange tennis shoes on.
Idaho Family Photography
Spring in Idaho isn't always "pretty" but it's actually in my top two seasons to photograph during, really. You may automatically think fall and summer. Warmer weather, pretty colors and all but spring has some of the BEST sunlight and you don't have to wait until 10 p.m. to get it.
Really, spring in Idaho isn't quite green yet so families often to opt for fall or summer but by then they are too busy to worry about organizing a family session.
As an East Idaho Photographer I can tell you spring may not look pretty to our eyes but it's gorgeous. If you are planning family photos aim for April to beginning of June.
