Devon & Jessica wed up Fourth of July Creek
Being an Idaho wedding photographer is a dream come true for me. Over the years, I've had the privilege of meeting so many different people from all walks of life, and each wedding brings its own unique blend of personalities, stories, and emotions. Whether it's chatting with guests who have traveled near and far or getting to know the couple whose love story I am there to capture, I always walk away feeling grateful for the opportunity. And here in Salmon, Idaho, where the majestic mountains and pristine rivers provide the perfect backdrop, I’ve seen everything from intimate elopements to large gatherings with family and friends, each one as special as the next.
One such wedding that really stood out was Devon and Jessica's. Every year, the couple makes the journey to Lemhi County to take in its beauty and wilderness. But this year was different—it was going to be the year they made that trek extra memorable by tying the knot right here. Their wedding was a celebration of love, not just between the two of them, but also of their connection to this area, making the event feel incredibly personal and intimate.
Devon and Jessica chose to get married up at Fourth of July Creek, a spot that holds a special place in their hearts. The setting was absolutely stunning, with the backdrop of Idaho’s rugged landscape giving the ceremony a natural beauty that only this place could offer. Devon, ever the hands-on groom, made the wedding arch himself, a true labor of love. They found the perfect spot for it in the field, where their closest friends and family gathered around in anticipation. As Jessica’s father walked her down the aisle, the sense of love and excitement was palpable. Devon’s face as he saw his bride for the first time said it all—it was a perfect moment.
What made their wedding truly stand out, though, was the personal touch they added to their ceremony. Instead of opting for a traditional unity candle or sand ceremony, Devon and Jessica did something that reflected their style and values—they used a custom brand to burn their initials into a wooden sign. This sign, which they’ll hang in their home, became a lasting symbol of their union. It was such a unique and meaningful alternative, and I loved seeing how they made the day their own. It’s a great reminder to all couples: your wedding day is YOUR day. Whether it’s a small, personal detail or something larger, don’t be afraid to do things your way.
After the ceremony, we moved into family photos and bridal party shots, but one of the highlights of the day came next. Jessica and Devon had made it clear that they wanted to take some time away from the venue to capture more intimate photos of just the two of them in the breathtaking surroundings. I couldn’t have been more thrilled! It’s not always easy to convince couples to step away from the hustle and bustle of their big day, but when they do, the results are always magical. We ventured out to a nearby spot along the Salmon River, where the scenery was unbeatable—the lush greenery, the flowing water, and the mountains rising in the distance. It was a photographer’s dream.
Jessica and Devon were so easygoing, and their love for each other shone through in every photo. The quiet moments we spent taking photos along the river gave them a chance to breathe, enjoy the day, and take in the beauty of the place they love so much. By the end of our session, the sky had started to fill with smoke from a nearby wildfire, but it only added a unique, almost ethereal quality to the last few shots, with the sunlight filtering through in soft, warm hues. It was as if the day was wrapping up just in time.
As I packed up my gear and watched them head back to their reception, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of satisfaction, knowing that I had captured not only their love but also the magic of the place they had chosen to say their vows. Being a wedding photographer in Idaho gives me the chance to do just that—to blend the beauty of the people I meet with the incredible landscapes that surround us. And Devon and Jessica’s wedding was the perfect example of how special that combination can be.
