Wedding Flower Tips from a Pro Florist
Flowers can be a big part of your over wedding plans but does time of year matter, when should you book a florist? I talked with Justine at Fleurish Floral here in Salmon, Idaho.
Fleurish Floral is local floral shop and Justine and her team make some amazing arrangements both bouquets but also table and arch decor. I had her give us some pro tips on wedding day floral.
Get to know Justine
How long have you been in business?
In March Fleurish Floral will be 10 years old! Cyndi has been a florist for 30+ years and Justine for 10 years. We have a great team who love working wedding floral magic for our clients!
How many weddings have you done?
This is a good question! I have not kept track of the number, but I would say 70 plus. We do all styles and sizes from simple and small to elaborate and large.
Can I get any flowers any time of year?
Yes! We can get most flowers year-round. There are exceptions of course like peonies which are available in the early summer and dahlias which are available late summer into fall. We recommend booking a consultation so we can address all the specifics like availability to make sure you get what you love!
What flowers work best in what seasons?
It is nice to use the traditional seasonal flowers during that season, like tulips and irises in spring, peonies and daisies in the summer, sunflowers and mums in the fall, and red roses and star of Bethlehem in the winter. However, these days we are not ruled by the growing seasons like in the past, so I always suggest going with what you love. I think that the florals are the most personal expression of the couple at their wedding. They cultivate the driving atmosphere of a wedding or any event.
How far in advance should I book my florist?
We recommend booking 6 months in advance to save the date with us and to make sure all the details are finalized stress-free.
How do you suggest we maximize our budget?
Basing your florals off of colors rather than types of flowers is a great way to increase the scope of your selections. Double purposing your florals is also a great way to maximize your budget. Use the aisle arrangements for centerpieces on the reception tables, etc. We are here to help with ideas and options.
If I give you a picture of a bouquet and/or centerpiece that I like, can you recreate it?
Yes! We can pretty much create any design of bouquet from nosegay to statement. When consulting with us pictures are a great way to communicate your taste and vision. If something will be different or is unavailable, we will discuss it with you to create the best alternative.

Choosing Flowers for Each Wedding Element
Picking the perfect wedding flowers may feel like a task on your already long to-do list. Each element of the wedding has so many different options. What do I mean by element? I am thinking about anything and everything that may include florals. Think boutonnieres, altar decor, centerpieces - all of it. It can be overwhelming.
The best way to start is with a simple color palette. Have this handy when meeting with your floral professional, this will help with flower options and may help allow them to provide better options to you as well. Have inspo photos? Bring them. I think the best communication is open communication and you want to be on the same page with all of your wedding vendors.
