Jacobs Family
Capturing the Jacobs Family: An Idaho Family Photographer’s Perspective
I had the pleasure of seeing the Jacobs Family again this year! Kyle and Megan are expecting another little bundle of joy, and they made sure to sneak in their annual family photos before life gets a little busier—and even more wonderful. This session marked my third time photographing the Jacobs family, and it’s always a joy to watch their family grow and capture these special milestones.
For once, we got lucky with the weather! In past years, it seems like we always manage to pick the coldest day of the season for their session, but this year was different. We decided to reschedule, and it was absolutely perfect—still crisp, but much more comfortable. As an Idaho family photographer, I’m no stranger to braving the elements, but it’s always a relief when rescheduling pays off with a beautiful day.
A Special Guest: Kitty the Stuffed Animal
This year, we had a very special guest join us for the session: Kitty, Emma’s beloved stuffed animal. For anyone who’s had toddlers, you know how these little companions can feel like part of the family. Kitty made a few memorable appearances in the photos, adding a sweet and personal touch that makes their session so unique.
When photographing toddlers, it’s all about finding the right balance. Sometimes, their favorite stuffed animals or comfort items can be key to helping them feel safe and happy in front of the camera. With Emma, it was no different. At first, Kitty stayed close by as Emma warmed up to me and the camera. Before long, Kitty wasn’t just in the photos—Kitty was helping me take photos! Moments like these are priceless, and they speak to the magic of letting toddlers feel like they’re part of the process. Eventually, I was even able to earn Emma’s trust enough to take some adorable photos with and without Kitty.
Growing Families, Lasting Memories
One of the things I love most about being an Idaho family photographer is building relationships with families like the Jacobs. Over the years, I’ve been honored to document their milestones, from chilly winter sessions to this year’s warmer, golden-toned shoot. It’s so special to see how their family continues to grow, and I can’t wait to meet their newest little addition.
As a photographer, I understand the importance of patience when working with young children. Whether it’s embracing their quirks, taking breaks, or letting them bring their favorite stuffed animals, every session is about creating a comfortable space where genuine smiles and precious moments can unfold naturally. For families like the Jacobs, these sessions are more than just an annual tradition—they’re a chance to freeze time and preserve the fleeting moments of childhood.
