It’s a baby year! So many beautiful moms-to-be are preparing to welcome little ones into the world, and with them comes the quiet anticipation, the excitement, and the chance to savor the beauty of this fleeting season. Among them are Katrina and Derek, who are joyfully awaiting the arrival of their baby girl.

I had the honor of photographing this sweet couple for a maternity session, and let me just say—it was nothing short of magical.

Katrina showed up with three outfit choices: a casual look and two stunning dresses. I always encourage expecting mothers to consider a dress for at least part of their maternity session. Even if dresses aren’t your go-to, something truly special happens when you slip one on—especially during a session like this.

Dresses add softness, movement, and elegance to photos. They highlight your silhouette in a way that's both flattering and feminine, and they bring a timeless feel that truly elevates the images. Whether it's lace, chiffon, or cotton, a flowing dress can turn your photos into artwork that you’ll treasure for decades.

Katrina’s first dress was a romantic all-lace gown, giving us a whimsical, vintage-inspired vibe. The second was made of chiffon—light and airy, perfect for catching the breeze (which we definitely had!). Although the weather didn’t cooperate quite as the forecast promised, we leaned into the elements and created something even more meaningful.

One of the sweetest moments during the session came when Katrina kept trying to fix her hair in the wind. Derek gently told her to stop—“Just embrace the wind,” he said. You could see it in his eyes—he was fully present, soaking in the moment, so in love with her and in awe of this phase of life they’re in. It was beautiful to witness.

That’s really what maternity sessions are all about: capturing the glow, the connection, and the anticipation. It’s not just about having “nice photos.” It’s about freezing this moment in time before everything changes.

Pregnancy is filled with so much transformation—emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Having these photos allows you to look back and remember the strength, the love, and the beauty you carried. And someday, your child will be able to see just how loved they were before they were even born.
