When Should You Get Maternity Photos Taken
The journey of pregnancy is a unique and beautiful experience, filled with anticipation, joy, and an undeniable radiance. Maternity photos are a wonderful way to immortalize this magical time in your life. However, timing is crucial when it comes to capturing that perfect baby bump glow.
What is the "perfect" timing?
When it comes to maternity and pregnancy as whole is so unpredictable, it so hard to tell you what is perfect for you and your pregnancy. While it's unpredictable, every single pregnancy is different from the next. I put together some "guides" I offer clients when booking their maternity session.
Between 28 to 32 Weeks: The "ideal" timeframe for maternity photoshoots is typically between the 28th and 32nd weeks of pregnancy. During this period, your belly is beautifully rounded, and you have a significant baby bump, making for visually striking images. Additionally, you're likely to still feel relatively comfortable and have plenty of energy for the photoshoot.
Avoid the Final Weeks: While the third trimester is a popular time for maternity photos, it's advisable to avoid scheduling the shoot too close to your due date. The last few weeks of pregnancy can be physically challenging, and there's a higher chance of unexpected developments that might disrupt your plans.
Consider Your Comfort: Pay attention to how you're feeling during your pregnancy. If you're experiencing discomfort or fatigue, you might want to schedule your photoshoot during the earlier part of the recommended window. Feeling at ease and relaxed during the shoot will contribute to better photos. It is so important to feel good and comfortable during your session.
Maternity Photos: How to Prep
Choose the Right Timing: Schedule your maternity photoshoot between the 28th and 32nd weeks of pregnancy. During this time, your baby bump is beautifully prominent, and you're likely feeling comfortable and full of energy.
Find Your Style: Consider the style of photography that resonates with you. Whether you prefer soft and ethereal, vibrant and colorful, or natural and candid, communicate your vision with your photographer.
Select Your Wardrobe Thoughtfully: Choose outfits that make you feel confident and showcase your baby bump. Flowing dresses, form-fitting tops, and cozy sweaters are popular choices. Avoid busy patterns or logos that can distract from your belly. I have a client closet available with mostly dresses for expecting mothers.
Consider Accessories: Add meaningful accessories to your ensemble, such as a delicate necklace, or a pair of baby booties. These touches can add a personal and sentimental touch to your photos. Don't forget your sonagram photo or anything like that you want to include.
Professional Hair and Makeup: Pamper yourself with professional hair and makeup services on the day of the photoshoot. Feeling polished and beautiful will boost your confidence and shine through in the images. You will alleviate so much stress and you feel so good about yourself. Consider booking both or at least one!
Hydrate and Rest: In the days leading up to the photoshoot, make sure you stay hydrated and get plenty of rest. A well-rested and refreshed you will exude radiance and positivity.
Coordinate with Your Partner and Family: If your partner or children, will be part of the session, coordinate their outfits to create a cohesive look. Harmonious colors and styles can enhance the overall visual appeal. Start with your outfit first and then coordinate with everyone else. Stick to a three main colors.
