First Christmas Tree Farm Sessions!
Christmas Tree Farms were certainly a thing for part of my childhood. I remember actually have to go pick out a tree from a farm or a parking lot. Sometimes you don't even see the tree because its wrapped up with rope.
Since being in Salmon, since elementary school, Christmas trees were picked literally out of a forest paired with all day sledding and hot cocoa. It was no longer just going to "pick" a Christmas tree, when I made Idaho my home, I got choose my Christmas tree. It was a neat experience and something I am thankful for. Living in chilly Idaho has it's perks: Christmas tree hunting in the forest.
I knew about this Christmas Tree farm from when I worked at the local newspaper. The owners would run advertisements for the tree farm. Fast forward a few years and they ended up booking a large family session at the tree farm. It worked out great, I got to meet some great people and make a great contact.
This year I went out on a limb and started advertising for these. I don't always fill session dates or themed sessions that I love. And that's okay, not everything can be successful 100 percent of the time, right?!
So I was so excited when I had clients book these. I love the snow capped trees, they are so beautiful. It was quite cold this day, 10 degrees in the sun. It felt cold too. Cold days are hard on kids, especially younger ones. On top of that, add on winter colds and runny noses.
Some of my themed sessions are geared more towards just children but I thought that space was large enough for families, couples, just children - really everyone. I included some of the families that participated below!
Kaden & McKenna
This brother and sister duo get a lot of camera time with me. Their mom, Tessina, is a longtime close friend so we usually make them model for sessions. Since I see them and use them a lot for models, we never know if they will actually do what we want them to do. Mckenna wasn't having it, it was cold, she was cold. But we still got some cute shots very quickly!
That is one thing you can count on, I am going to get as many photos as I can in the shortest amount of time. Trust me. I am going to help guide you and the kids on what to do and how to do it. That is why you should hire a professional.
Tessina dressed in jammies. I loved this idea. Christmas jammies are so cute and trendy. I've always wanted to try and pull off those fun Christmas jammie photos with a bed and book!
I know it's going to be fun session when I get to see the Kaufman family. Spencer and Tommy - I never know what they are going to bring me but I know we will probably have a ton of fun.
I have had the privilege of photographing this family for so many special moments. This was another great session for the Kaufman family. I even snuck in some individuals of Cadence. I tried with Spencer and Tommy but they just weren't having it but I did get some of them together.
They were all such troopers we were able to break off into smaller groups and get some different poses and combos. They got a gift card for warm drinks at Rise and Shine after so I hoped that helped!
Look how gorgeous Aubrey is! He gorgeous green dress and that beautiful red bow! She was ready for her photos.
Kayla did such a great job styling everyone's outfit to match. Even down to the shoes, it's the details that matter! Little EJ wasn't feeling 100% plus (again) it was cold. But we pushed through the session and got some photos.
I thought their outfits really went well with the background and looked "holiday-ish" without being to "holiday-ish" a perfect balance.
We walked around and tried different things to get EJ to hopefully feel a little better and relax but he wasn't having it. But I know we got some in there for the Howick family!
It's been a few years since I've seen this family. I think Valentine was barely walking. The date worked out well to have James there for the family photos. He works out of state and had to leave the next day. Luckily for him he was still home and got to participate in the family photos at the Christmas Tree Farm.
The Riggan family all wore black Carhartt sweatshirts for some and then changed mid-session. I was NOT surprised at all, about the Christmas sweaters.
Taylor loves "ugly" Christmas sweaters. Ugly depends on the year but she gets a new one every single year with a goal to eventually collect 25, enough for each day of December leading to Christmas.
Valentine even had his own Christmas sweater with tractors, and James has kept his original one he got a few years ago. He's okay with just one. I love the shot with the tree, looking at them. What do you think?
I met the cutest little corgi when Charles and Ashley came for some photos. We got so many great photos of Charles and Ashley with the dogs and without the dogs. These were perfect for couples. I love the snow on the trees, it's just a little mor romantic, isn't it. Maybe it's just me.
But also couple sessions are fast and relatively easy if both parties are willing to just go with it. Which is what I did with Charles and Ashley. I really love couple sessions they are fun, and I can usually get away with a little more.

These were so successful I want to try and offer these yearly. I know some wanted to book these but were out of town or it just didn't work this year. I do have a spot for a "Christmas Tree" for some quick sessions if anyone is thinking of getting some this year.
These would need to be booked ASAP since Christmas is right around the corner. If you think this is something you are thinking about contact me here.
These were my first Christmas sessions since 2020 and I don't do them very often but kind of love the simplicity of these.
My next theme sessions will be Valentine's Day sessions. These will be indoor! Watch my social media accounts for more information on these when it comes closer.
