Justin & Elicia Sneak in Family Photos
The Joy of Watching Families Grow: A Professional Photographer’s Perspective
As a professional photographer, there are countless rewarding aspects of my job, but one of the most special experiences is watching my clients' children grow up over the years. It's a privilege to capture these precious moments and be part of their family’s journey, preserving memories that will be cherished for generations.
From the first maternity shoot to the yearly family portraits, each session deepens the connection I have with my clients. These ongoing relationships allow me to understand each family’s unique dynamics and personalities, which helps in capturing their true essence in every photograph.
Every photoshoot is a chapter in a family's story. I've had the honor of photographing first steps, birthdays, graduations, and other significant milestones.
Elicia is a perfect example. He took his first steps during a photo session we were doing at the time. It was so incredibly special for them and me, I got to not only witness it but create a forever keepsake for them.
Each of these moments is a testament to the passage of time and the growth of the children I've come to know so well. Being present for these milestones and documenting them is an immense honor and a responsibility I cherish deeply.
I looked forward to this family session with Elicia, Justin and everyone. I have done a few photo sessions with Elicia over the years and I love seeing my clients and children grow up.
Children grow up fast, and with each session, I see the subtle and not-so-subtle changes in them. Their personalities evolve, their interests change, and they develop their own unique traits. Capturing these changes through my lens is a continual learning experience. It keeps me adaptable and attentive, always ready to highlight the individuality of each child at every stage of their life.
It doesn't seem like that long ago Atlas was taking his first steps and now Elicia and Justin are patiently awaiting Holland to do them same.
We had such a great session and I am so glad the family snuck in some much needed family session while visiting.
Capturing Summer Memories: Family Photography Tips for Busy Families
Summer is a time of sunshine, laughter, and cherished family moments. As a professional photographer, I understand that busy families might find it challenging to schedule and coordinate family photoshoots amidst packed schedules. Here are some tips to help you capture those fleeting summer memories without adding to your stress:
-
Opt for Mini-Sessions: Mini-sessions are perfect for busy families. These short, 20-30 minute sessions can be squeezed into a packed day, ensuring you get beautiful family portraits without a huge time commitment. Early morning or late afternoon slots can offer the best lighting and the least disruption to your day.
-
Choose Familiar Locations: Select a location that your family frequently visits, like your backyard, a local park, or a favorite playground. This not only saves time on travel but also helps everyone feel more relaxed and natural in front of the camera.
-
Embrace Candid Shots: With busy families, posed shots can sometimes feel forced and time-consuming. Instead, focus on candid moments that capture genuine interactions and emotions. Playing games, having a picnic, or simply walking together can provide plenty of opportunities for heartfelt photographs.
-
Involve the Whole Family in Planning: Make the photoshoot a fun family event. Let the kids pick their outfits or suggest activities they enjoy. When everyone is excited and involved, the experience becomes more enjoyable and less of a chore.
-
Prepare for Flexibility: Life with kids is unpredictable, and plans can change last minute. Ensure you choose a photographer who understands this and can offer flexibility in scheduling and rescheduling sessions as needed.
